Warramate Hills, Gruyere in the Yarra Valley.
A big thank you to Kaye McRae for organising a great weekend walk. Our group trekked around 11 kilometres and enjoyed some fabulous scenery. A steep climb saw us rewarded with some magnificent views and we enjoyed our lunch with those views in cool but fortunately dry weather conditions.
Members enjoyed a long but very rewarding walk through Plenty Gorge following a number of scenic tracks our group has not previously walked. Thank you to Mark for organising our stroll.
Exploratory Walk Wednesday 16th May, Plenty Gorge Park, South Morang and Plenty.
The walk commences from a car park on Gorge Rd South Morang (Mel 183 J12)
Carpooling from Diamond Valley Sports Complex car park (Mel 11 A10) 9.00 am.
Leave the car park turning right and then left at the roundabout onto Diamond Creek Rd. Drive about 1.7 km and turn left onto Yan Yean Rd. Travel approximately 3.7 km to turn left at a roundabout onto Kurrak Rd. Follow this road down to and cross the Plenty River to rise up to Gorge Rd. Near the top is the Middle Gorge car park on your left where we start the walk from.
The walk follows Parks Victoria and bike tracks mostly following the river. You will view the gorge from many points most people will never see. It is quite spectacular. It is definitely a medium walk and poles are strongly recommended. There are a few steep ups and downs but all are short. I’m not sure on distance 5-6 km I think. It takes about 2 hours. Coffee at Plenty Views Golf Driving Range Yan Yean Rd.
Cheers
Mark
