WEEKEND WALK: TRENTHAM DOMINO RAIL TRAIL

10:00 a.m. Continue on Trentham Rd into Trentham, turn right onto Victoria St, Destination will be on the right 700 m taking approximately 11 minutes to Trentham Railway Station where there is parking
The Walk: 6 km each way Trentham to Lyonville approximately 3 hours, car shuffling can be arranged if 12 km is too far for anyone, please advise if you require car shuffling?
Level of difficulty: Easy, flat, compacted earth and coarse gravel
10:15 – 1.15 p.m. Walk Details: This walk follows the old Daylesford – Trentham Railway line and now goes as far as Lyonville The walk passes through the habitat of the Powerful Owl, an endangered species occasionally seen in this area and native vegetation including tall trees, in spring orchids can be seen and there are several informative signs on past uses of this area. For the first 500m, the rails are still in place and the grass-covered trail runs between them. On the left can be seen the old Sunnyside foundry. After Falls Rd, the trail enters bushland. Species of eucalypt include manna gum, peppermint and mountain gum. Along this section, watch for swamp wallabies, grey kangaroos and short-beaked echidnas. There is a short detour around the Coliban River. A sign, about 4km from Trentham indicates a short loop trail that has been constructed to take you down to the Domino Creek to see the brick-lined tunnel that carries the creek under the line. The loop continues along an old logging trail before returning to the trail.

Head east on Victoria St towards Market St 700 m, Turn left onto Kyneton-Trentham Rd/C318 600 m, Turn right onto Pearsons Rd, 4.0 km Hotel is on Corner of James Lane Trentham East
3:00pm- Head for home, James Lane takes you back to the Kyneton- Trentham Road back through Tylden or detour back (10 minute drive) to Trentham Falls for a short walk to the falls
